Island investment property (Isle sale)

Land for sale in Zakynthos (Zante)

There are five, self contained, plots of land for sale at the north-west part of the Ionian island of Zakynthos (Zante), Greece. All five are located within a 2-3 miles distance from beautiful, unspoiled beaches (eg, Makri Gialos, Klimati, Xygia), and, due to their mountainous position, they are afforded great views of the sea and the surrounding natural landscape. The plots can be viewed anytime by arrangement.

The land is of astonishing natural beauty, surrounded by native trees and bushes and a huge diversity of wild flowers. These plots are close to the most rugged and rocky coastline of Zakynthos to the west, and to the most beautiful and serene bays to the north. There are many trails leading up in the mountains or down to the sea. All five plots are located half way between the main village of Ano (Upper) Volimes (with grocery shops, first-class restaurants and other amenities) and Skinari/ St Nicholas port (from where ships leave for Kefalonia -the next island- and Italy). The town of Zakynthos, and the airport of the island is 20 miles away. All plots are situated in mountainous areas, with a wide access to a public road, and are perfect for those who seek unspoiled nature and the freshness of the mountain air (fragrant from thyme and sage) with an easy reach to clean, blue beaches, away from the tourist track. The land offers much more than a mere plot for bulding houses. It offers plenty of space for activities such as horse-back riding, hunting grounds, etc. The Village of Ano Bolimes is at the north/west part of the Island of Zakynthos and presents many indigenous trees such as pine trees, cypress tress, olive groves, almond and walnut trees. The landscape is austere with hills and beautiful hand-made dry stone walls (lithies).

This land is similar to corfu property (a nearby Ionian island)

The first plot is named 'Misorachi' which means 'half mountain ridge'.

There is a stone house on the hilltop on the land.
This photo, showing the hilltop house on the land, also gives an idea of the depth of the plot.
Because there is an existing house, no license is required to build here.

The frontage of the hill is on the main public road, making the whole area easily accessible. The dimensions of the five plots are:

The land as it spreads from the mountaintop down to the slopes offers stunning views of all the bays at the north and west part of Zakynthos and the surrounding areas, which would ideally be captured with a panoramic camera, as it is both closer to the sea and higher than the vantage point of the photos shown above. These plots offer an excellent investment in that they are located in a sought-after part of the island. This area is not crowded as are the southern parts of the island. The development that currently takes place is of the higest quality. The houses built in the surrounding area are stone made, follwing the traditional methods of house building and architectural styles. Also, the development is respectful towards the natural environment.

The Region

The north and north-west part of the island is undergoing a development that is sustainable and in harmony with the environment. All new houses that are built in the area are made of local stone and terra-cotta roof tiles, constructed by local stone craftsmen. There are numerous tavernas, cafes and restaurants that serve fresh local products, fish, meat or vegetables and local wine. There is a large number of Italians and Germans residing in this part of the island. At an easy reach you can visit places of historical and cultural interest. At a mile and a half from the village you can walk or drive to St' George's Monastery with its Venetian tower recently being restored. A few meters away from the monastery you have a panoramic view of the western Ionian sea from where, as legend has it, Algerian pirates came to loot the monastery. Close to the monastery there is an area called 'ship wreck' (navajio), a beautiful, completely vertical cliff with white sand and turquoise waters and an old ship wreck lying on the beach. At the north part of the island, 3 miles from the village, you can take a boat or a traditional caique, and visit the 'Blue Caves' and the lighthouse (Korithi) at the very north tip of the Island.

Also, from there, you can take a ferry boat and hop to the next Island of Cephalonia, north of Zakynthos, a place where the controversial novel Captain's Corelli's mandolin refers to. Also, for shopping and nights out you may drive or take the bus to the main town of Zakynthos.

Zakynthos has always been the most culture-orientated island of Greece. There is a vibrant literary life that boasts 12 contemporary poets and numerous artists. During the summer months, there are many art exhibits and theatrical performances taking place throughout the island.
